Sustainability
Forests have been a strong resource for our basic needs throughout history – providing food, shelter, and fuel, etc. Using forest waste to displace fossil fuels for heat is being recognized as not only convenient, but can offer high energy return at a low cost. In addition, finding use for this low-grade waste material is a key component of both sustainable harvesting and forest conservation which helps manage forested parcels and maintain their long-term value as a sustained resource. Furthermore, producing biomass from locally managed forests provides a renewable energy source which keeps energy dollars circulating in the local economy. This creates markets for low-grade wood, adding economic vitality and jobs to the forest-products industry, thus improving the health of our forests.
