Cost Benefit

Is Biomass for me?

There are many benefits to using local biomass for your energy. There are also many motivations for the installation of a biomass heating system, whether it is a conversion of an existing system or in a new facility. Although the direct economics are always a primary issue, there are many other considerations. Even the economics can vary depending on the term of your analysis. Some of these issues directly affect the consumer and others are strong benefits to the community and country in general.

  • Saving on heating costs – lower fuel costs, payback on capital cost
  • Current economics
  • Long term projections
  • Carbon reduction
  • Reduced Reliance on fossil fuels
  • Energy independence
  • Local economic benefit
  • Local forest benefit
  • Incentives: Federal, State, Local
  • Tax Credits
  • Accelerated depreciation

An example of the benefits of a district heating system would be the use of 30,000 dry tons of wood annually to provide heat to a community. Whether it is a district heating system or a central heating system, you will have some differences, but the general concept is the same.
